About This Event
Over 170 experts involved in the maritime sector gathered at the Sustainable Shipping awards in London on 7th July at The Radisson Blu Hotel, London to celebrate those companies making great strides to shape and improve the environmental legacy of shipping.
The awards ceremony was opened by Yvo De Boer, former Executive Secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and Special Global Advisor, Climate Change and Sustainability at KPMG Worldwide who spoke of the challenges faced by the industry, the efforts being made and the importance of the Sustainable Shipping awards.
Jonathan Porritt, Founder director of Forum for the Future and Chairman of the UK Sustainable Development Commission, then led the proceedings, acting as master of ceremonies.
The winners were decided by a group of internationally respected industry figures that included Mike Penning, UK Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Transport, Peter Hinchliffe, Secretary General, International Chamber of Shipping, Charlie Brown from IKEA, Dr Simon Walmsley from the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), Jacob Sterling, Head of Climate & Environment at Maersk Line and Natalie Bruckner-Menchelli, Senior Editor of SustainableShipping.com.
The third annual Sustainable Shipping awards recognised those people who have dedicated their time and money to helping shipping reduce its carbon footprint, and to encourage others to get involved.
An interactive exhibition ran parallel to the awards ceremony which gave real opportunities for all finalists to showcase entries in-depth as well as allowing discussion and key networking amongst both guests and nominees during the evening.
The Sustainable Shipping Awards are reinforcing the need for companies to see the link between sound business ethics,
environmentally sustainable operations and positive long-term business performance. Environmental and commercial excellence
is not mutually exclusive. But to combine the two requires a great deal of innovative thinking and bold decision making. Just
as the Maersk Group strives to achieve this equilibrium throughout its various businesses, we look forward to recognising
and rewarding those companies and individuals who are taking such pioneering steps within the marine industry.

I was impressed by the global appeal of the event, with people travelling from all over the world to participate. It
provided an opportunity to recognise the hard work, and in many cases unselfish work of a number of the entrants.
Lloyd's Register
It was a great night last night. It was well organised and fun, often a difficult combination which you achieved admirably.
WWF
I think it was a well performed event from start to end. Information was clear, questions were answered promptly and it was
a very interesting crowd attending the event.
