HOW ARE WE GREEN?

The following are examples of some of the resourceful measures we are implementing to 'green' the Sustainable Shipping Awards. We hope that by investing in these activities, the Awards demonstrate Sustainable Shipping's commitment to environmental sustainability.

Destination Selection

Environmental aspects of the destination (London) were considered when selecting the host city. Examples include venues and suppliers with environmental practices, availability of waste reduction and recycling and local transit.

Marketing

	For printed Awards materials, Sustainable Shipping uses paper that is made with 100 percent recycled fibre.
	All other marketing materials are sourced using the most environmentally friendly material available.
	Sustainable Shipping has committed to producing only one pre-Conference communication using paper. The rest of our communications are conducted electronically.

Transportation

	The Awards venue was chosen so that land transportation is limited and public transportation options are available.
	Attendees are encouraged to choose ground transportation options that minimize their carbon footprint, such as mass transit, rail service, and car sharing or shuttle services.

Guest Accommodations

	Hotel staff are instructed to turn down the heat/air-conditioning, shut drapes, and turn off the lights when rooms are vacant.
	A towel and sheet reuse program is in place for all sleeping rooms.

Food & Beverage

	China and/or glassware will be used at all banquet functions.
	Cloth napkins are used in all banquet functions.
	Polystyrene products are avoided.
	Menus will be chosen with local, organic, and sustainable products when possible, and vegetarian meals will be served.

Event Management & Exhibits

	Leftover and unused exhibitor amenities (such as tote bags, product samples, etc.) will be donated to a non-profit organization.
	Exhibitors and speakers are requested to print handouts double-sided on 100 percent post-consumer paper with vegetable-based ink and bring a minimum amount to distribute.
	All communications with speakers, sponsors, and hotel are electronic.
	Award registration is entirely online and confirmations are electronic.
